[Sep. 14th] RIKEN Symposium - Epigenetic Regulation through Chemicals & Metabolite Analogues -

[Overview] 

On September 14 2015, RIKEN Symposium on Epigenetic Regulation through Chemicals & Metabolite Analogues will be held at the RIKEN Yokohama campus.

This symposium focuses on current biological topics handling epigenetic regulation by small-molecular-weight compounds and several metabolite analogues, including chemical, computational, and structure-guided approaches. The symposium is composed of morning and afternoon sessions on September 14, and will be done in English throughout the program. In the morning session, we will invite two distinguished scientists in this field: Prof. Cheryl H. Arrowsmith (Structural Genomics Consortium & Univ. of Toronto) and Prof. Eric Verdin (Gladstone Institute of Virology & Immunology, UCSF). 

Prof. Cheryl H. Arrowsmith, one of the leaders of Structural Genomics Consortium, will talk about open access chemical probes of chromatin regulators. Prof. Eric Verdin, who is also internationally renowned in the field of chromatin and epigenetics, will give us a talk regarding epigenetics and metabolic regulation.

In the afternoon session, six scientists from RIKEN will make their speeches. The scientists belonging to either Wako or Yokohama campus will talk about recent epigenetics-related topics, either by chemical-, computational-, or structural approach. Finally, Dr. Kazuhiko Tanzawa will introduce how Program for Drug Discovery and Medical Technology Platforms (DMP) in RIKEN is tackling with academia-based drug discovery.

The symposium is being organized by the Division of Structural and Synthetic Biology (DSSB), RIKEN Center for Life Science Technologies (CLST). The symposium is also being co-organized by the RIKEN Epigenetics Program (Epigenetic Regulation of Higher Biological Functions), headed by Dr. Yoichi Shinkai, and RIKEN Program for Drug Discovery and Medical Technology Platforms (DMP), headed by Dr. Toshio Goto.
